A Conversation with Ashley Jane Photography

Q: Tell us about your business. How long have you been in business? How many weddings have you been a part of at Trellis925?
A: I have been in business for 8 years and we do about 30 to 40 weddings per year. It’s crazy to think about the experiences we have been a part of but each year we learn something new. It’s a very fulfilling job to be able to have fun doing it even after this long. I have joyfully worked around 6 weddings with Trellis925 and truly enjoy each wedding we are able to be a part of with the Trellis925 team!
Q: Let’s chat about your wedding faves! What’s your favorite part of weddings? What’s the most fun to take photos of during weddings?
A: As tough as this is, simply because I love the entire wedding day. My favorite part of weddings is watching the emotions of the friends, family and wedding party as they are all getting ready leading to the ceremony. They’re the most surreal, loving and heart-filled moments throughout the entire day. There is nothing like watching these moments and capturing the true joy in each photo. My second favorite part of weddings is the fun and relaxing reception! I love how it turns the mood from being loving and sincere to lively, entertaining and endless laughs as the family and friends get to dance and celebrate the couple.
Q: What’s the most important part of weddings to you and your photography?
A: Being a photographer is such a personal experience and getting to know our couples is by far the most important part of each wedding. The first few initial meetings is key to me as I am trying to get to know the couples, their likes and dislikes. I am here to do so much more than show up for the day of the wedding and take a few photos and leave. I try to send out questionnaires for the couples to fill out just to get to know them a little better and see their style and the moments that would mean the most to them. Your special day goes by so fast and I am here to capture the moments that you look back on and remember the event not just the look of the photo itself. Weddings to me is a day that needs to be enjoyed and remembered as easy. The process itself is so stressful and I want to help as much as I can to make sure that day you can take a breath and just enjoy it.
Q: Do you have a specific process you go through with your couples before their wedding?
A: Absolutely, I think communicating with my couples is so important to begin the process to their perfect wedding day! First, I like to meet with them to see if our styles fit and make sure my photo style is what they’re looking for. Next, usually is just the boring legal part of the process which is the contract as it’s routine. I also send out questionnaires to each couple to get to know them a bit better on a more personal level. Communication is key, because I want to know they’re happy with the photos we will have for them of their special day and what better way to know you’re getting those photos perfect than to get to know the people that make those photos come alive. Lastly, I try my best to make sure the soon to be wed know that I am here to help anyway I can on the wedding day! There is nothing more pure and picturesque than emotions that are stress free, it’s YOUR day afterall.
